Mohave County Probation Department's Tara Newman, Joe Prentice, Dianna Waller, Kenny Dunlop and Jillene Gock volunteered their time to help during LHC Grad Night.
Project Graduation is a yearly event and entirely supported by the Lake Havasu community. This program is a valuable program for our community and provides a safe/fun alternative for Lake Havasu youth on graduation night. This program has been running for twenty years. The program was inspired after a high school graduate died in an alcohol related vehicle accident, on graduation night. Project Graduation has been running for the last twenty years and has provided a drug and alcohol free environment for local youth.
On May 22, 2008, five probation officers volunteered to provide assistance, offering additional security at the event. The probation officers worked in two separate shifts between the hours of 9pm-2am. Probation officers screened each youth upon their entry into the event. Purses and backpacks were searched and the youth were scanned with a metal detector wand. Officers also walked the grounds, ensuring the area was safe and positively interacted with the youth. This was a rewarding experience for each officer involved and provided an opportunity to assist the community. In addition, it provided an outlet for officers to congratulate the graduates and offer reminders for them to be safe on this very special night.
