An appeal is the legal process used to ask a higher court to review a judgment made in a legal matter from the trial court. Anyone who is a party to a case can file for an appeal.
- In a criminal matter the notice of appeal shall be filed with the clerk of the trial court within 20 days after the entry of judgment and sentence.
- In a civil matter the notice of appeal shall be filed with the clerk of the superior court not later than 30 days after the entry of judgment from which the appeal is taken.
- In a matter involving an arbitration proceeding a notice of appeal shall be filed with the clerk within 20 days after the filing of the award or other final disposition.
In civil cases, an index and copies of documents specified in the Arizona Rules of Court, Rules of Civil Appellate Procedures are transmitted to the Appellate Court on the 40th day from the date the Notice of Appeal was filed. In criminal cases, a copy of the record is transmitted to the Appellate Court 45 days after the Notice was filed.

Filing fees to file:
- An appeal from Superior Court is $121.
- An appeal from Arbitration is $75.
- An appeal from the Limited Jurisdiction Court - civil traffic appeal is $93.
